Workshop in cooperation with the Institute of Human Rights / Azerbaijani National Academy of Science

Baku, February 9-11, 2007

Perspectives of the "Caucasian House" - From an explosive towards a peaceful region

The existence of about 30 nations in the Caucasus asks for a federal solution to strengthen the cultural idendity through forcening security, material prosperity and individual independence. "Civilizing the conflicts" can be seen as the first goal - in the long run, the realisation needs new conceptions too - a possible division of states and nations, e.g. with dual citizenship. Instinctively, many people in the Caucasian Region are in favour of federal or confederal solutions. The idea goes back to the founding of "The United Caucasian House" 1876. Utopian thinking at the end of the 19th can become a realistic alternative in the 21st century Basic ideas and perspectives are the main topics of the workshop.
